Im no canon ball expert but first: i think this should be in the 'What is it" section. like is it a canon ball?
Second i believe you are going to need better measurements than that. Did you use calibers to measure its diameter?( what does 6.5in's around mean? Circumference?) From the condition it looks to be in. You should probably measure it 20 or more times and then average them. Again im no expert.

Resembles one of Ellie May Clampett’s meatballs!
I’m guessing 6-1/2” diameter. A picture with something to show size would help. I’m not up on cannonball sizes, but it is an obvious first thought. Good luck.

Yes 6 and a half inches around and I thought that’s where I posted this only my second one so that’s why it says newbie

Jnns, you just said yes 6 and a half inches around again. So now im really confused but just to clarify, and make sure everyone is on the same page.

I haven't found any cannonballs from the Rev war era that were 6.5-inch diameter. A 6.5-inch diameter cannonball should weigh more than 1.5 pounds.

see what i mean jnns? you have to be very clear with measurements and details. and use the correct terms.
Circumference
Again im not a canon ball expert by any means. But I believe you need a very accurate measurement of the diameter not circumference. That gives you the size of the bore in the canon it was shot out of. Like a bullet and the caliber of a gun. You wouldn't measure the out line of the bullet to find out the barrel's caliber size. If you are lucky canonballguy will come in here and bestow his knowledge on you. Which is light years away from what i know.

I see what your saying I didn’t realize all of this also I’ll post in the what is it thread thanks

Intriguing, jnns...Watching with interest what comes out of this. Regardless, nice recovery, and welcome aboard!

Looks to have a good chance to me.
