Hello friends. I found this bullet while detecting a Civil War skirmish site in Missouri. I am very confused by this bullet, and it may very well be post-war. Here are the stats:
1.10 inches long
.45 caliber
427.2463 grains in weight (27.7 grams)
It is nose cast, and has a mold seam midline on both sides. It appears to have been fired, and I can make out (I think) a trace of grooves that seem to go diagonal. Can't determine how many there are. The nose appears to have been rammed. This does not look like any other type of CW bullet I have found before, and the base does not seem deep (concave) enough. The patina looks like the other CW bullets I have pulled from this site and not like the post-war bullets (which are, admittedly, a small sample size of .36 and 9mm).
Please let me know if any of you have any idea what this is.
