Hi everyone,
I'm trying to date an 18 carat gold ring but Can't make my mind up about the date mark. It is an 'O' and is either 1863 or 1963. I would appreciate any views on it.

Looking at your O it appears slanted, and that how it looked for 1963 versus 1863,this is based on page of Hallmarks for Birmingham UK online as believe sideways anchor is Birmingham.About halfway down youll see link for Gold hallmarks Introduction to Antique Jewelry Hallmarks

Thanks happy camper. I agree about the slant on the 'O' for 1963 but the background shape is more like the 1863. I think it is probably the 1963 because of the overall shape and condition of the ring. I can't find the maker's mark W.E.G anywhere either but overall, I think it's modern.

Frank
