This is a point I found almost 20 years ago in the Ochlockonee River in Florida. An archaeologist who was trying to find an ancient crossing got very excited, and classified it as either a Kirk or Hardin, even though Hardin points are rare in north Florida. Nothing else was found with it. Any guesses on the type? Thanks for looking.

What is the difference between a kirk stemmed and a Savannah river? These are all points found in southwest Georgia by me. The red one has been identified as a Savannah river. It is thicker through the body than the tan one beside it. Actually, that is the only point in this frame I have had identified except for the top left one. I was told it was a Tallahassee Dalton if memory serves me.

The notching at the base is different, for one thing. A lot of them look similar, so some are harder to type than others. What are you near in SW Georgia? Tallahassee here.

Leesburg, just north of Albany.

Kirk. Kirk's are also more robust than Savannah Rivers and are made of raw material. Most Savannah's are cooked.

Beautiful artifact.

My family is from Albany and Dawson on my grandfather's side, Coleman on my grandmother's side. There's lots of good artifacts around there!

The sites these points came from are now off limits. New owners won't grant permission.

We used to hunt in Camilla and all over Mitchell County. Same story here, landowners are shutting it down everywhere.

Here to lucky for me I got permission about 2 years ago and they know I am trustworthy. I keep all the names handy when trying to get permission as to the ones who let me on their property. When I am asking I start looking through the names and asking if they know them. Usually there is at least 1 person they know and I then ask the new owner to call and ask about me. Then about a week later I go back and see what they say. Its 50/50 on the answer but most say okay.
