Found this and I'm pretty sure it is a hat plate. It is very similar to the Milita Hat Plate on page 168 of Mike O'Donnell's "American Military Headgear Insignia" It is silver plated brass with a lead filled back. Also still has the attachment wires as seen in the pike. Came from an area that has produced relics from 1740s Reales to Civil War.. with a few odd later hunting items.. pocket knife, shells etc.. The house site itself burned either during the Civil War or soon after and was not rebuilt. I can't tell what the letters are.. the first appears to be an "H" then maybe an "F" and "L" Huh but I'm guessing..

Any help??

Thanks,

Re: Help: Milita Hat Plate??

I see "H S S" or maybe "H S B" but I can't find anything for that acronym from the time period of late 18th to early 19th century.
