have waited some time to post this here, but I have run out of options and need any help I can get. This mustard pot is only 2.5" high to the top of the pot, 3" in diameter at the base, and 2.25" diameter at the top of the pot. From research I have done, at this size if this was solid sterling it should weigh about 100-120 grams at most*. silver plated copper would be less than that. This weighs 160 grams! a magnet does NOT* stick to it. At the weight and size of this pot, the only thing I can reason would be platinum. It does not show any tarnishing and is brighter than any silver I have ever seen. I can not find any hallmarks anywhere like this (not even close) anywhere and i have searched for over a year! The only thing I have read is horse head facing left is a mark for platinum, although i`m not even sure this is a horse head* and this hallmark does not look the same as others i have seen. It appears to be a horse head, sunburst, and horse head hallmark. There are 4 numbers also to the left of the hallmarks...80 (space) 35 . I will be testing this soon, but wondering if anyone cangive me any info on this at all. EVEN OPINIONS AS TO WHAT THE HALLMARKS MAY BE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I have posted on so many hallmark, and silver forums...and noone has ever seen anything like this. any help would be appreciated. I`m only posting this here, because members here have been such a help in the past with questions ive had. Thank you in advance.

How did you come to the conclusion that a Sterling mustard pot should weigh 100-120 grams?

I don't know if it would make any difference, but could it be a creamer versus a mustard pot?
Did you check out the International Silver Co. in Connecticut? I believe at one time they had a knight's head (think of a chess piece) as a mark.

Those look like psuedo-hallmarks, fake hallmarks placed there to deceive. My guess is silver plated copper.
This was my first thought but I didnt say. The marks are funky. The left and right markings are not the same with different edges lopped off. The center mark is very suspect.

I found Polish? horsehead Platinum and Palladium marks but they do not match. http://www.gum.gov.pl/en/site/px_precious_appendix.pdf Platinum should also have a fineness mark thats missing.

I think you have psuedo marks. My guess its silver plated brass. You could go to any pawn or jewelry shop and have them acid test a spot on the bottom.

I looked at many online auctions (ex. EBay) and mustard pots with similar dimensions as this, weigh around 100-120. So i`m basing that assumption on similar size mustard pots.

I originally thought silver plated copper also. but like i say, after researching similar mustard pots of this size, don`t see how it could be copper and weigh as much as it does.

Its probably just thicker metal. Preciuos metal would most likely be thinner. But by all means have it tested at a pawn shop to remove any doubt and let us know.

Can we see an uncropped picture of the 80-35?
Thanks. It doesnt look like 835 silver fineness mark.

An example of what we mean by pseudo marks check out these links. The are obviously not silver but must have been plated and marked to deceive. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,358270.0.html

Pseudo hallmarksmarks - Silver marks that are not regulated or administered by an officially sanctioned assay office or guild. Generally intended to imitate official Hallmarks http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,228161.0.html

Good call. I think Don is correct. It may help to search unicorn silver mark but I think its a pseudo unicorn.

I agree, I was wondering about a pseudo mark also. The mark is just so unique, I wanted any opinions I could get. Thank you a ton.
