HELP new to mine lab vdi's

ok so it the last two numbers that count like 12-47 is the same as 11-47 same as 10-47 i'v just had whites and this mine lab id numbers are hard to get used to can some one tell me in little boy words my little brain can handle whats up with the first part of the numbers i've read but its just not gotten threw …. got me a ctx3030 ,v3i,excalibur, the excel i'm getting no pictures LOL … its great at the beach…. but i just have only been out once with the ctx and it made my mined hurt 5 years MDING and it feel like the first day with my MXT …..help
i'm spending more time on youtube than in the dirt dane it …..:icon_scratch:

These numbers are simply the 2 components of a targets signal. The first 2 numbers i.e. 12 are the FE or ferrous values of the target. The last 2 numbers i.e. 47 are the CO or conductivity values of the target. This is explained in Andy Sabischs book as follows: "There is no true metallurgical analysis being performed on each target that the detector sees despite what the terminology infers. the FE and CO values are simply coordinates on a graph assigned arbitrarily by the software developed by Minelabs engineers, which is processing the signals coming back from the coil. They could just as easily been called X and Y."

Ok....so what does 12 mean.... what does 47 mean? Thx

The 12 is usually a good sign! When the engineers at Minelab started to map out what good targets looked like on a graph, they found most of the non-ferrous targets landed around the 12 bar on the ferrous scale. Due to corrosion, various alloys, depth, and ground conditions, that number can vary a few points either way, but, you should dig all those numbers at the beach regardless of the second, conductive number. In a park, you need to be a bit more selective. Sound, depth, and the conductive number will determine if it's a good enough target to recover. Experience in the field will help you make that decision. Use it a lot at the beach first to get used to the numbers and how they correspond to what you actually find. The 47 is a conductive number at the high end of the scale. Large targets, silver, copper, brass, etc are in that range. At the low end of the scale are your foils, small aluminum slaw, nickels, small gold, tabs, and the like. That 47 reading can also be a nice big tent stake! It will be preceded by a 35 (or there abouts) ferrous number however. So that's one way you can tell a tent stake from a quarter. 12-47, quarter, 35-47, tent stake. 12-13, nickle, pull tab, gold ring, wad of foil, etc, 35-13, hair pin. Time in the field will get you use to all that.

Excellent response Cuda!. The OP could also use TTF sounds to differentiate those tent stakes and hairpins.

Thank you very much!

Yup, one of the best features of an E-trac. Makes hunting around a fire ring much more pleasant.....correction.....much less of a chore! :laughing7:

Great info here but learn the tones and the slight differences in tone. # will lie on deep ones or ones next to trash. AUDIO AUDIO AUDIO!

right now i just want to throw it …. LOL it seems like the numbers jump everywhere my v3i seems more steady just i'm having a hard time with the ctx i've only had it out three time got kicked off the school this morning ……….damm people …..i'll just go back on sun morning early …. so i reset the ctx back to factory and will start over with a open mined its 104 today so just to hot to play maybe later … its the beach time tomorrow morning at 4am until 10 then to may people and to hot …..

Do you have Andy Sabisch's book, if not it is well worth the cost. .. The first number FE is the primary number and most important....

Get Andy's book and put time in. Recover targets and remember the corresponding numbers for future refference.
