Help me identify this black rock

Hello, I was down by the river earlier today and found this peculiar rock I had never seen before. I tried searching all around for others like it but couldn’t find one remotely similar. I’ve never been into rocks or anything but this rock has caught my interest because of its rarity

It looks like some sort of volcanic formation. I don’t know I’m a complete noob

I noticed that this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). Looks like pyrite. Try a streak test and if you could a good picture in natural light.
