There has been a grassroots movement that started in the Classified section and then got moved to Everything Else. Basically, we have started trying to build a small fund to buy 4 Ace 250's to try and help some folks less fortunate than ourselves to either get their start into this great hobby, or find a way to get back into it.

This effort has met with some great responses, and with a lot of negativity.

If this is something that you might be interested in throwing a couple of dollars at, then please check out this thread:

If this is something that you think is lame, please just ignore this request and don't add more negativity.

Hey Thompy,

I thought more people would get involved as well.

Keep passing the word and we'll meet our goal sooner or later.

Thanks everyone!

Don't consider my reply negative but, instead, consider it constructive. I frankly don't understand this enamorement with the 250 and I almost bought one so I'm not putting it down. But if you want to treat others to ge interested in this great hobby then drop this 250 goal and consider getting simpler equipment. Instead, for the same price that you can buy a 250 for (I almost paid $165, used, delivered from a dealer) which is $212 plus shipping on eBay (and up to a few more dollars) you can buy a simpler quality detector that can make learning easier while providing good performance resulting in good finds. Towards this end I'm thinking of various Bounty Hunter models for a hell of a lot less than the above prices. This means that whatever financial goal you had in mind for 4 250s you can buy possibly double that many more detectors for the same amount or even less, allowing you to acquire additional equipment such as digging tools, aprons, etc. Think of it, instead of helping 4 unfortunates, you could help 8 or more unfortunates.
