an object without context is just anything between memorabilia and a piece of junk...

(btw, the only dating method worth pursuing would be dendro)

Concur. Context is everything. Looking at this, I can see why none of the museums have bothered.
I see no evidence of shipwreck effect.
Dnedro, as Alexandre suggested, would assume a match to the rings....well...$$$

Keep it in the family with a story....

I always mused, that 100 years from now, when someone checked my property up in Washington State, they could prove by the artefacts in my yard, that Vikings, Phoenicians, Romans, Chinese, and many others had visited Puget Sound.

I suggest the Oak island thread...perhaps Knights Templar! Those people will love this. You would get all sorts of wild **** to talk about.

"found the piece partially exposed in the sand of a small island in the 20s-30s."
That tells us a lot....

What if I contact the appropriate department dealing with “treasure” in Florida .... express my wishes that the piece be eventually donated to the museum I have previously contacted.... and let them take it from there? I know I will receive many different opinions... but I can sift through them all to come to the “right conclusion “.
Thanking you all in advance for your input!

The state of Florida will only take it and bury it in their storage facility, never to see the light of day again!

Great piece zi wish you luck

I do not see any evidence of shipwreck effect..in fact, quite the opposite.

No provenance and no restoration...just a liability to whatever organization takes it....

sorry.
