Kinda odd one of, looks like celtic hinges with egyptian revival type motif and some victorian flourishes.

Such as it is it reminds me of the runes or charms folks painted for protection in the olden days. I suspect it is such. Part of the reason it reminds me of Norwegian etc areas,

You might look for blanket chests etc., which such on them to find similar stuff.

Is it inlaid or painted on?

Looks to me like it was "scribed" OR EVEN "LIGHTLY" carved on, not an inlay and the colors aren't really "paint" they look like ink or maybe dye...


Also I did the mirror and flash light under and behind it and nothing. ss

not much to go on.

Those faces gave it away.

Its an early Alien piece, would say
about 1958 visit.

Look closely at the face of this....does anyone else see the mouth? there appears to be a heart shaped 'wreath' hanging from it?

I was looking at this today and for the first time have noticed it...maybe it will help!
