Hello all,
We are trying to identify this religious medal or medallion that my husbands grandfather carried with him during the war, and then for the rest of his life. It It's obviously quite worn because he carried it in his pocket every day, but we think it has something to do with the birth of Jesus. Any ideas? We know he obtained it sometime in the 1920s or 1930s as a gift from his father. The back is completely smooth, and it is about the size of a silver dollar. He is hoping to identify it so he can get another one to wear as a necklace, and keep this one in a safe place...
Thank you for any advice or help you can give!
Hillary

This looks like the famous sculpture "The Pieta" Mary cradling Jesus' body after he was removed from the cross. Like this:Pieta.jpg
I don't have any specific links to point you to, but I hope it helps.
