i moved in recently to an old archaeologists house and started finding rocks smoothed and flat and very square. i didn't think anything of it till my rock hunting friend came over and told me i might have something. Anyone think they could help me with identifying these pics.

Looks like he was a hunter his self. Most of them are broken. I believe the last one is natural.
Welcome to the site.

thanks for the reply, this is what i found in 10 min outside. Tons more all over yard... Im just not sure what Im lookin for.

I am seeing 2 mortars. The larger rocks with the cupped out area. Maybe some hammer stones. Some of it looks like he may have just been studying the material. Curious what the one rock is that looks like it has knots on it. Top pic by the mortar .
Good score. Who says Archeologist do not fill their basements full !!

larger pic of said "bumpy" one. My friend said he thought it was a meteor of some sort, but he wasn't sure. I have another thread with all close ups under geologist sub forum if anyone is interested

PS - small chip on knotted rock reveals strong black rock structure underneath

I left you a message on it there.

Thanks saw that rock, also I live in eastern NM but the man before us frequently traveled for his hunts. we are near the area of blackwater dig site(clovis man)... if that helps at all

I think the one with the black interior might be a really neat lava formation with solidified bubbles.
I'd like to hunt your yard haha.
Be sure to check the attic too.

If the arche picked it up it's worth keeping:thumbsup: and like gator said I would like to hunt your yard:laughing7:

This might sound really weird..but take a peek in the toilet tanks.

Cool story. Check his rock garden. I have one off my cabin porch, and another here at the house. Nice pics, but we would need some more profile pictures of individual pieces to make a artifact ID. HH.

thanks everyone ill have pics of everything just don't know what's valuable artifact and whats a basic path stone. the backyard is loaded! look at these i found by the water line today

I don't see any artifacts in those pics. The last two look like eroded sandstone fossils?

Cant sell on the site unless you are a charter member. But the last photos were just river rocks from what I can see. I myself have a bunch of rocks sitting next to me rite now I have to take back. We all bring them home when they are dirty hoping they will be more than just rocks. Its usually a 50 50 split when they are dirty.

lol, thanks for the info rock! to my amateur eye everything looks the same, I took pictures of everything I thought looked hand made out of what i found so far here is a group shot and ill post individual profiles like Catherine suggested.
