Help identifying object

Can someone please help me figure out what these are? They seem to be made of clay. Are they some type of jug/jar stopper?

Just an idea, probably those small doohickys that you put freshly made pottery on while being fired in the kiln.

Interesting! I did a Google search for antique kiln stilt and I couldn't find a perfect match. Maybe they were custom made and one of a kind?

Sounds plausible. I couldn't find any old examples on Google. Four were found, so that confuses me. Not knowing for sure is driving me nuts. They were found with other items from 1890's- 1920. Thanks
