Dug this up at a site that used to have a house on it based on some old USGS maps. It’s about as thin as a penny, make of copper or brass. Beautifully decorated in what appears to be floral rather than geometric style (perhaps rococo/gilded age?)engraving. Lots of square nails around. Didn’t realize it was a face until getting it in shadow and seeing the reverse. Too fragile to clean beyond toothpick. There may be writing under the dirt on the front, but I’m hesitant to clean it in case it breaks. Any suggestions on cleaning?
Profile of a woman with what I think is a pearl necklace and hair in a bun. There is a pin at the bottom of the profile with some sort of thin cover that has mostly broken away (perhaps a heavy pendant?). Any chance it’s a queen or nobility? Any guidance for trying to identify the woman if possible?
Thanks All!
