Help from Elle & others with St. Ignatius of Loyola (1491 – July 31, 1556)

PhipsFolly,

I am so excited to research your cross. Seriously, I get really pumped up thinking about religious artifacts and what they tell us about the past. Or perhaps, it is what they represent in the faith which ultimately leads me to come to know, believe, and cherish with all my heart. Ironically, your name is on my list of people who I planned to contact this June/July. Thank you so much for sharing your find and I’ll be in touch soon. Right now I’m writing reports for some other religious items which my friend is selling in the upcoming auction. One of these was being shipped to the Royal Family in Spain, so I am quite enthused to reveal its history to the world.

Hi Laura... Excellent! Looking forward to speaking with you.

Thanks for all your contributions to Tnet... you are a very well studied and knowledgeable person with regards to religious items recovered and clearly are passionate about it... An inspiration.

Talk soon, Phips

elle there were "mission" crosses that the Spanish missonaries gave to indains once they "converted" * coverted indains were worked around the missions but were not to be hauled off as "slaves" --non converted indains were however "fair game" to be hauled away as slaves to be worked to death in the central amereican gold and silver mines --so the copper "misson crosses " were very , very important , they were in fact "life savers" --also any indians near a mission site that did not have the crosses on them were deemed to be "hostiles" and were treated as such.

Hi Ivan,

I am familiar with mission crosses, but I’m a little confused what your paragraph relates to?

I probably confused everyone because there were five artifacts (RELICDUDE07’s rosary piece of Christ and a Caravaca cross, Hangingfor8’s medal of St. Ignatius of Loyola, my St. Francis Xavier medal --similar to Hangingfor8’s, and PhipsFolly’s Caravaca cross) being discussed here on one thread and I apologize RELICDUDE07 … very much!
