How big is this piece of wood?

From the curvature of the piece it could of come from many different sources.

Boat, deck chair, furniture, wagon. :dontknow:

Can you see if shank of nail is square or round?

Round, irregular. But it’s difficult to have more information on it cause it’s rusty and flaked
Bronze doesn't rust.
So it probably is iron.

Here's a piece of shipwreck wood I found in the Atlantic. Missing is the iron rod it was attached to. Also notice the hole from a square headed nail/bolt.... Added a pic of some small ballast stones
