Once again...The condition is amazing....!
Thats called german ingenuity... Years ago we dug a wooden bunker here which had the floor made from dozends of 105mm artillery casings. The open ends together and all covered with brush wood. The brush wood was rotted away but left a nice christmas pattern on the brass. :tongue3:
My favorite discovery in the bunker // stove/ I always use it

As always, great post! Question: how did these bunkers remain intact/not get ripped off immediately after being abandoned? You would think people would want to use or eat anything not nailed down. Thanks.

the Russian soldiers did not want to dig up trashed positions for souvenirs :)

Imagine battles in a forest maybe 150 miles from nearest village. Who would go there? why would they travel into the woods? Russia is a HUGE country, some parts you can travel for two days on end, without seeing any signs of life.

You would think Russia is full of souvenirs. Strange as it sounds, they contributed the most to saving democracy and Europe. I understand they were fighting for "mother Russia", but the world cannot repay what those those men and women did for all of us. I feel a sense of debt to them.

Russia did as much as the U.S. in as much as stopping Hitler, Hell She did more, And suffered more than any other country in my book,
I doubt that the cost in Russian lives will never be known.......Thank you to the soldiers of all the countries that fought aginst the Nazi's.
My prayers go out to all the men and women who died in that terrible War.
