Hello. I have zero experience with detecting. I had a White's Goldmaster while I still lived in Denver, CO but there was so much junk in the ground around there that I didn't use it much. Ended up selling it.

Anyway, thanks for having me. I want to get a decent unit that won't break the bank and one that is designed for finding gold nuggets in the hills and vales of southern Utah. I would love to get rich doing it but am not delusional enough to think I ever will. I mainly just want to get outside and have some fun. I'll be 60 in September and need to stay busy.

Anyway, any advice is welcomed advice. Thanks

Hi, Welcome to Treasurenet. Thinking about getting a gold detector? Check out the Fisher metal dectecting forum. From what I understand, the Fisher Gold Bug Pro is one of the best.

Welcome to Tnet from Mississippi

Thanks for all the welcomes.

I'm currently scanning Amazon for detectors. Lots of price variance. I want something decent but don't want to buy something super expensive just to have it sit in the corner. I should probably start with an entry level unit then upgrade if I "catch the bug." I'll keep thinking and searching.

AJ, welcome to the forum from Oregon. Lots of information and knowledge on this site. Good luck on finding a good detector... there are a lot of good ones available.

If you can meet with a dealer try that first. Out your way they should have some units that work well on gold. I've heard good things about the Garrett AT Gold and Minelab 600/800.
