Hello, new here and need help please :-)

Hello, this is my first time here to this site and I'm happy to become a member so that I can learn more about these rocks and minerals or...? that I'm finding on my property.
A little background ..... I live in the Southern California area and while doing gardening and yard work I discovered an amazing quartz vein on my hill in my backyard. It has a variety of colors: grey's black, browns (smokey ), whites (clear and solid), purples, blues, greens, reds, oranges, yellows. They come in many different shapes sizes and textures. Some have crystals on them, some are semi-transparent & you can see something on the inside, some are spotted or have lines in them. And there's a good variety of them that have come out looking tumbled, they're perfectly smooth and round.
Not sure what all I have here but they are beautiful and unique. Please let me know what you think that this stuff is. First I'll post this one that has a mineral looks like a flower on it, what is this?

Where you type your post, there is a toolbar above. Look 3rd from the right, the button "Insert Image". From there you choose either an image on your PC or from a URL. I haven't had luck with the URL route, personally. The rest is pretty self-explanatory.

Breyfogle, you found it. Southern Cal is a big place and there are lots of legends and stories. Simply put, a quartz VEIN can easily be loaded with gold. Read some of the legends, forum on lost mines I think, tske a piece of that quartz that has something inside and have it assayed.

Almost all quartz veins are completely barren of gold. Check if you are even near a gold producing area and crush and pan the quartz before wasting money on an assay. Plus, do you even own the mineral rights to your property? Many do not.

I'm just not sure exactly where to look for the gold I'm going to post a picture of the actual quartz vein about 10 feet wide and 20 feet long so far

I don't doubt you know what quartz looks like, I think it's just the pictures, but it doesn't look a whole lot like quartz to me. Anyway if you want to test for gold I'd take some samples from different points along the width of the vein maybe including a little extending beyond the vein. Crush to powder and pan. Good panning skills will be necessary and magnification will help. Beyond there head over to the hard rock gold prospecting section and those guys will help you out, but for now all you'll hear is crush and pan. Good luck, and welcome.
