I would pretty confidently say the trail was on the east side of the river from about Twin Mountains in Kiowa County on up at least til Devil's Canyon. Carvings and markings would be a good indicator and there's possibly some around Twin Mountains and Navajo Mountain, and Devil's Canyon is a whole nother story. Spanish artifacts found in southwest Oklahoma can't be relied on, as the Kiowas and Comanches loved to fight the Spanish Lancers and would take their equipment, so you can't really know if a Spanish bit was lost by a Spaniard or a native.
