Hello everyone southern Iowa here thought I would introduce myself.... I have been in the Metal detecting hobby since I was around thirteen years old. Here is the story of how I started.... I was playing in a local park and I seen this older gentleman digging holes in the ground and I was curious to what he was doing so I approached him and asked him what he was doing he said looking for old coins. I watched him as he dug the hole and he pulled out a wheat penny man was I thrilled! I then watched him swing this strange machine around the ground and dig up coins when he heard certain sounds. He explained to me what the sounds meant and how the machine worked and eventually let me help him dig the coins I still remeber it like it was yesterday and it was around 35 years ago. I would watch for this old treasure hunter and help him when I seen him around town (He would always give me a penny or other for helping him dig). One day he asked me if I would like to try to use another machine he had and of course I said yes and this was the beginning of a very great friendship that lasted many many years. He would let me borrow his extra machine when he couldnt go and I found many great things. I eventually saved enough money to buy my own machine and we spent countless hours finding treasures in the ground. I lost this dear friend a few years ago he was 92 years old and everytime I pick up my machine I think of Ray and the great times we had. I learned many important lessons in life from him the most important being true friends are for life and into the next. More about myself .... I am mostly a Whites fan and have used almost every machine they have put Out. I purchased a MXT Pro about 6 months ago and it is my go to machine now. I hunt in all types of terrain but favour yards. I love trade tokens and anything with advertising on it.I have never really hunted for civil war artifacts but like the thought of it one day. The MXT has proved to be a very good machine but has taken some getting used to. I look forward to posting my finds to the site and making new friends. It has been a slow year for hunting due to the dry weather and the ground condition but I have done well considering.
