I got up early dressed warm and headed out. Hit a couple of spots that I've wanted to hit and a couple more that I hadn't really planned but looked promising. I didn't spend too much time at any one place because they were all producing the typical clad but nothing old enough to keep me interested for very long. Then in the final hour as I'm resorting to beating the weeds hoping for the best I hear a mans voice from accross the creek. Oh great here we go again, I think to myself. Much to my surprise it's an older guy wearing overalls who's wanting me to detect around his 100+ year old home and smokehouse. The first hit I got was a brass tire gauge from The United States Tire Co and the most recent patent date on it was 1909. A few feet away I found an 1886 Daisy Dollar, and a wheaty just before it got dark. Overall it was a pretty good day.

That daisy dollar is just awesome!

Awesome finds! To have some guy wanting you to hunt his 100 yr old property is like hitting the metal detector lotto!

Very nice hunt, and to have someone actually ask you to hunt there property, "Priceless". Something tells me you'll be back there. Congrats!

That's a great story. I would definitely return to that property with a box of donuts or something to the owner's liking.
That Daisy token is in all probability made by the Daisy BB Gun Manufacturing Co.
Congrats on a nice hunt.

Unasked for permission is as good as it gets. Nice ol' fella. That tire gauge is neat as heck.

Yep, I would certainly say that the token was put out by the Daisy BB gun company. And I like your old tire gauge too.

Very nice finds! :occasion14:

Did the home owner want any of the recovered relics?

Awesome! I like the Daisy Dollar. Nice find.

The land owner said I can come back any time (and I will) and keep what I find, he just wants to see the stuff I find. Here's a shot of the instructions for airing up tires 100 years ago.

It's not to often that someone offers permission to detect on their property - I like the Daisy dollar "Great Finds".

Ya I was shocked he wasn't yelling at me out of anger, he just wanted to see what I found. He was super cool and said he had been living there for 40+ years himself. I'll be going back for sure.

On another note, I found this today while goofing off in my own yard.

Today I went back and spent a few hours going over the old place and found 2 more wheats and big ol' sterling silver ring.
