Here's a piece I acquired a couple of years ago, but don't think I've ever posted it here. This fine Clovis was found in LaSalle County, Illinois near the town of Troy Grove. It was purchased from the finder at the Utica, Illinois show in the 60's by Ed Onken. It's traveled around the country to various collectors from North Carolina to Texas and found it's way back closer to home. There's actually a cast of this point on display at the Illinois State Museum. While Jim Maddox owned it, he shared it for study and documented it in many publications over the years. It measures around 4-1/4" long.
The finder information hadn't been provided and was assumed lost. When I had it on display at the Starved Rock show, a attendee told me that he was familiar with the piece and knew the finder. He hadn't seen it in many years. However, he added the additional history that it was found by Clarence "Chucky" Schweiger. I always enjoy adding lost history to pieces.
The material is an absolutely beautiful, banded Starved Rock (Oneota) Chert local to the LaSalle County area. This is considered one of, if not the top piece known made from this material.
