This morning I took my Legend with the 11 inch coil to my favorite detecting spot. I can usually find a wheat penny or late silver coin, but nothing comes easy anymore. This spot is polluted with every sort of pull tab, beaver tail, and mower struck aluminum. I have to pro pack with the 6 inch coil, but I was too lazy to change the coil.

I waded into the worst of the trash around the pavilions and isolated a couple of clad coins in the 4-6 inch deep range. It was so trashy that I absolutely could not use the pinpoint button. I "X'ed" the signal and was able to find the coin. I finally got a mere whisp of a high tone(I use 4 tone) and without using the pinpoint, I found an 8 inch deep wheat penny from the 20's. I ended up with two more with similar scenarios.

I have been pulling coins from these exact spots for 15 years so now the only test for me to do is hook up the small coil. My past experiences with small coils limited my depth to 4-5 inches. If the Legend 6 inch coil cannot go deeper than that, it will not work in this particular spot. I have watched several youtube videos with the 6 inch coil and the people raved about the performance of the coil. Next week will be my test.

I'm not a legend owner, but todays detectors & the small coils will surprise you. I think alot of the detectors & 6" coils can see 8" in depth fairly easy. I personally think it is fun to coin snipe a trash patch. I think you will enjoy it to.

Your experience will be interesting reading. I have done well on old silver in a trashy spot, that was supposed to be worked clean, but I dont think that it was as bad as yours. I did however just order the LG24 and an extra CF lower rod for it. With several trashy locations in mind. I have every coil for my Simplex, but the SP24 seems to stay on it.

The LG15 will for sure go to 8"-9" in the right conditions. It will also pick through heavy iron better than the LG24. The LG15 also really excels in tot lots and curb strips, but weirdly they both seem to get the same depth most of the time.
