Hello All. I found this in a garbage pit at a 1900's home. It is made of thick brass just under 1-IN tall, 2.75-IN across the two extending arms, 1-IN diameter on the engraved top with a 1.25-IN inner diameter on the bottom side. Patent dates are June 8th and July 6th 1909.

Seems like maybe it was a steam relief mechanism for an engine or a cooking pot??

That would be a pretty small gauge, but, maybe they made them that size back then? My first impression was a fuel cap of some sort......like a small jerry can.

Well actually the valve that turn off the water. It has a place to lock it. The other part is missing

It's a cover for the fuel feeder from a 'hit and miss' engine. Similar to this one:
