HEAT

Wow, How can you do it, How can you stick to your hobby in this heat. I love metal detecting, but this heat and dry ground is really putting a cramp in my style. Anyone have any suggestions for me so that I dont waste away in the sun, and dig like the ground is concrete. I am pretty sure I need a stronger/sharper digger. good luck and happy hunting.

I work outside so I don't see the difference. If I can work in the heat I can MD in the heat. I have glasses and the earphones make my ears hurt. when its 95 outside my truck is 108.

Does anyone have one of those little cooler jobbies that goes around your neck? The ones they advertise late at night on TV? I thought about ordering one just for MDing, but about half that stuff isn't worth the $19.99 or whatever. JIM

I've also seen those neck wraps that are a couple of dollars a few years back. They had some kind of gel in them that swelled up when soaked in water. They did a pretty good job of keeping you cool for a couple of hours and were reusable.

I have two camelbaks; 1 is a 2 liter model and the other is a 3 liter model the same ones they issue to our troops in iraq and afghanistan. Me being a former soldier myself I also wear a bdu cap (camouflage hat) with a brown army towel sewn to the back. It covers my neck and is long enough to wipe sweat from my face.

u can get those kneck wraps from any industrial - contracting supplier - i have seen them for 4-5 bucks each - some people put them in the freezer - they r uses allot in construction and for people who pick veggies in the sun all day - LBP

Somewhere I picked up a headband that has the little gel beads inside that soak up moisture. Soak it in cold water for several minutes before putting it on. It keeps the temples cool and stops sweat from dripping in your eyes. Great if you wear glasses like me. If I happen to have an ice chest with me, every now and then I'll drop it in the cold water to refresh it. I don't know where to tell you to get one, though. I think I got mine at a street fair or swap meet, as I recall.

My son spent 6 years in the ARMY and came home with one of those camelback things. He takes it hunting when the weather is cool. I always wondered how the water stayed cool on those hot days? I always carry a jug of icewater in my truck and stop to get a drink often. It's the sweat running down on my glasses that bothers me. Maybe one of those tennis headbands would help? JIM
