Headphones

I was wondering what is the main difference between a standard set of MD head phones and a great pair of headphones, What are the switches on the headphones for? I do know there is volume knobs on each head phone for each ear.

a great pair don't make your head sweat, they have overload protection and will take a good deal of abuse
