Haven't a clue...

Haven't posted on the whatsit section in years, but, could use some help on this one...

Found this 'thing' at one of my older sites that dates back to the mid 1800's.

I first thought it was a button, but, it isn't flat (more saucer shaped or slightly domed) & it isn't round.

There is an square hole in the center of the piece, as you'll see in the pics. Also, there is some decorative rope type of design running all the way around the edging...not sure you'll be able to make it out.

P.S. - The pic with the penny is the reverse side of the object.

Appreciate your help!

Is the object brass? I've seen similar items in lamp making parts. I think it could be a washer for holding the light fixture to the lamp base. The square hole is for the use of a carriage bolt that locks with a sq. portion just under the head to keep the bolt from spinning when tightening. Just my guess, hope it helps.

ok i was way off on a saddle honcho ,, they have 2 holes for the stips to tie to.
but GMD52 may be close,, the shape and the ropped edge could be for easy twisting like a knob ?

I gotta tell you, ya'll are good! Per the many pics, and the echoed opinions of a few, I too believe it's from a piece of furniture.

Guess we can call this one SOLVED ;)
