I usually just go inside to the office & ask permission. It works.

Sounds like a marketing mistake on their part! ;D
 

Walked onto a church property on day a few years ago.
After 10 minutes the pastor came up to me and asked if I was looking for anything in particular.
I said, Old coins and the chance to find maybe a piece of jewelry that someone lost and hopefully find the owner of it.
OK he says. If you want to check out that area across the street your more then welcome too.

2 hours later....6 silver ( 4 dimes and 2 quarters ) 15 or more wheats and over $8 in clad....

Took a chance and got the ok....
 

I have also hunted church yards and they are good places. Most of the church yards I have hunted have been in western Illinois and have turned up goodies because they typically had a side yard which was the scene of ice cream socials, potluck dinners and other social events over the decades.
