I got this at a barn sale Sept 9 2001 .

I was driving home from work and I saw a Barn Sale sign , so I headed down the road to it .
The eldery lady said she was starting to pack stuff up , but I was welcome to look around .

I spotted a bunch of old dirty nautical signal flags - 25 cents each - grabbed them .
In the back of the barn ,behind a roped-off area , I spotted this painting .

I went out and asked the if that painting was for sale? She didn't know what I was talking about .
I led her in and pointed to it ....."That creepy thing...you can have it !"
I paid her for the flags , and while walking to my truck I noticed the city skyline painted on the back ...cool !

When I got home I showed the Creepy face to Miss mojjax ...."thats not going in this house !"
I then showed her the other side ....." That's kind of nice , hang it over there " ....

A couple days later 911 happened . We came home from work ... the painting was on the floor ! The original wire snapped .
I fixed it with a new wire ..... a week later ....on the floor again ! One of the old nails pulled out .

I replaced the 2 old nails . It stays up now , but it never stays level ... have to constantly adjust it .
She hates it when I flip it over ......the Face .... it gives me the Heebee Geebies , too !

My question - Is that New York ? That building looks kinda like the Empire State Building .

Happy Halloween !

It may have some bad Karma but I think both of the paintings are very nteresting and rather good. I know they look almost child-like but the more I looked at them the more I felt they have a certain "attraction"

Looks like the empire state building to me. It also looks like it was painted pre-twin towers since I don't see them in the skyline. The face doen't look creepy to me he looks he looks as if he's just got away with something and is pleased with himself.

Interesting art,
I quite like it

I paint ,draw, sketch, scratch, carve, when I can

I try to paint whatever comes to mind - possibly not as good

as these examples

I would guess NYC from the East River.

The face looks like a Post Impressionism portrait. Kind of Van Gogh-ish. Notice how the painter left the ear off...

I like it, but I wouldn't hang it in my house.

Odds are it's somebody's recreational painting. They did a skyline and a portrait. I like them both. I'd be happy to hang them in my home. Don't find the face scary at all, it's kinda charming.

Scary is all the ghost groupies who'll be hanging out in cemeteries tonight with EMF detectors and voice recorders thinking they know how to do a paranormal investigation because they saw it done on a TV show. ::)

Take your find to a local auction house. I'd bid on it. Other's probably would like the cityscape more than the portrait but the whole work has a soft look and an appeal.

Me too...I was going to say the same.

I would get that thing checked out...may have some hidden value...
Then again it could be that I watch to many episodes of Antiques roadshow.

Mojjax, those are cool paintings!
Both have a very interesting style. If I had to put a date on them I might guess early to mid 20th-century.
It would also be helpful to know what type of medium (oil or watercolor) was used and on what type of substrate material
(canvas or cardboard) it was painted on.

As a general observation, the fact that it is painted on both sides and unsigned might lead me to believe that the artist was
experimenting stylistically and these were "works in progress" so a new canvas for the second work would be an unnecessary expense.

From an artistic standpoint, it appears the artist did have talent beyond high school in the way that he or she captured the city skyline
(I think it is NYC). Very interesting artwork to say the least.

If you happen to find out anything else, let us know. . . Thanks for showing!
