Ebay-Paypal screw up ever! It's been quite a few years, I'm guessing 7 or 8, and even though I can't remember the exact details I do remember how much it sucked!
What happened was I was buying and selling on ebay and thought the funding was coming from one place and it was actually coming from another! I wish I could recall exactly what happened, but it was one of those things that a person doesn't catch because they feel the system should be designed and work based on what makes the most sense. But didn't catch it I did, to the tune of $1,400 in NSF charges! I only realized something was up one day when depositing $500 into my account and seeing I was $900 in the red.... and talk about a WTF moment that was. So I called the bank, figured out what was going on, and clearly showed it was not fraud, just a bad mistake thinking the money was being drawn from somewhere other than that particular bank account. Anyway, so they had already gobbled up the $500 I had just put in, and I was a bit surprised they were telling me I was on the hook for the other $900.... yet another WTF moment. I know it's coming up to the time of year it happened because I went about a month, and through the holidays waiting for the bank's ombudsman to make a ruling. Finally shortly after Christmas I heard back and they limited it to the $500 I had paid, so was off the hook for the rest. You know I think it might have been something as simple as my purchases hitting a checking account and not the savings, but it sure created a big mess and one that I was not too happy to deal with. At the time my Ebay was on a much lower level so $1,400 was quite a chunk of cash, and what a rotten Christmas it was. In sort of an ironic moment, it just hit me I just finished a deal for that very amount, $1,400, and it's a whole lot better being on the positive side of it!
