Has anyone ever tried ultasonic for cleaning?

They are ok. If I find a coin that is worth something I usually take it to get it cleaned professionaly. If it is really crapped up I us a electrolisis machine and understand it will be worthless when I get done. If it is common silver I just use the baking soda method.

Mabey I have never owned a good ultrasonic unit but I think they only work on very delicate items with light staining and not real corrosion.

At my place of employment we have in the past used a ultrasonic tank that was so powerful that it stung your hand if you put it in the tank with the ultrasonics on. Good ultrasonics can loosen flamespray from parts but I do not believe they make any "home" units with that kind of power.

I've got a small ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. It works pretty well on some of the gold rings I've found, not so well on coins.
