Bob, lets make it real simple, if your not discussing an American indian artifact, or posting American indian artifact pictures to view then do not post on the the American Indian Artifact Forum. You want to discuss supposedly Jesuit rocks do it on the Jesuit forum...
OK, it did not show up as Native American on my screen.that was ubder this thread. So this is American Indian

On smart phone you can slide the address bar at top of forum page left and right....

...Still AMAZES me how some folks can navigate the web as well as they do using that tiny little screen!

Thanks ,I'm in the field so using anything large won't work. Not technology savior

Post deleted, this is the North America Indian Artifact Forum......discussions on or about Jesuit stones are done on Jesuit forum...

That material is not the 'normal' material used for bannerstone like that.

Yes because while slate is 2.5-4 on Mohs hardness scale, granite is 6-7...twice the hardness and an unlikely lithic to be used for bannerstones.

Why not just google - Images for Authentic Granite Bannerstones and see for yourself. You will see one almost exactly like mine that is on i believe the 3rd row down that went for 9,500. The Native Americans many times used the material that was available instead of preference.

I googled it and the first thing that came up was this.

(Link deleted by mod, feel free to copy and past the actual post though)

While there is no doubt some bannerstones were made from granite/quartz, there is nothing wrong with providing factual information about materials that artifacts are made from.
