I got out with Gates today to hunt an old site. Gates found a nice CW Eagle button . my best was a suspender buckle. Page 2,---Gates had to leave about 2pm so I took a drive past some of our hunted out field sites and found one that had just been cultivated. I found the 1830s Hard times token, the miniball, and the 1859 fatty. The rest of the pics are some of my finds from the past month.
Thanks for looking and best luck my friends. Merf :hello:

IMO, that 1951D Wheatie deserves it's own page: never seen one with such an elevated rim before.

Fantastic month!

Great find's as alway's Merf. Why do you think you find so many Eagle button's from your area, was there a camp around there or something? Keep em coming

Nice digs!! I dug the exact same doll head at an old house site years ago... guess it was pretty popular!

Like the HT token, and the saw nut too as there seems to be many types of them.

Thanks---The rim is thin copper around the penny--I think it was a coat button.

Thanks Civilman------The places I hunt are mostly farmsteads dating back to the mid 1800s.
I think a lot of returning soldiers brought back uniforms or wore them back and the buttons were lost while doing farm work.
I have also found buttons dateing back to the war of 1812.
Many of the 1812 vets were given land grants in Illinois after the war and brought back buttons.

Thanks 4H---Yes --all in Northern Illinois.

Thanks to all for the replies and kind words.

Merf,

The silver compact and thimble are some of the best finds in this post! Beautiful finds.

The hard times tokens are always a great find.

I would love to see another photo or two of that bird-shaped piece. Is it clay? Pipe or whistle?
That may in fact be the star find.

Congratulations!
