Hi all, Gary and I got out to our Happy Trails site today. Before we went there we stopped at an old one room School house and did some hunting. I only found a 1905 V-Nickel and Gary found a Gold Baby Ring and a 1916 Barber Dime.

Then we hit the Happy Trails site. This site is still giving up good finds. They are a little harder to find, but the coins are still coming out of the ground.

Gary found 3 Washington Quarters 1941, 1943, 1957, 2 Mercury dimes 1943, 1945, 2 Roosevelt dimes, both 1963 D's, 5 nickels '41, '41 '47, '48, '57, 12 Wheat penny's and a Whistle.

I found 1 Washington Quarter 1942, 3 Mercury dimes '41, '43, '44, 3 Roosevelt dimes '54 D, '61 D, '64 D,
2 Buffalo nickles no dates 2 nickles '41 & 54 and 14 Wheat penny's.

We really had a great start for the new year. A funny thing happened again, I told Gary let's head for the car and Bang!, Gary pulls up a silver Quarter and I pulled up a Silver dime. We hunted some more and I said, lets hear for the car and Bang!, we each pulled up a silver dime apiece. I love this hobby.

Hope you all have a great Detecting New Year. HH, Ringfinder

I read and reread your posts , took some of your advice , and got some maps of wood county . I'm about an hour away from you . Anyhow . I've been hitting the same kind of spots your hitting and you ALLWAYS seem to do alot better . I have been hitting schools and churches that are now only fields . I've found about 40 ih cents , 1 barber dime , 1 barber quarter , 1 2cent piece , 1 v nickel , 1 canada 1/2 penny , and maybe 3 tokens . The silver is sooooooooo elusive . What I'm wondering is , how come the stuff you always seem to find is older than the stuff I find even though were so close ? Everything I find is from 1870 on up except for the 2 cent piece and the half penny . But the half penny was holed , so thats why I think it would fit in the timeframe of the stuff I find . it was an 1852 . What am I missing here ?? And where is the silver at ? I've been to about 10 of these spots . some of them are really bad . We may be there for 6 hours and not find a single coin . 06 was my first year of detecting , so I'm still new to it , but I think I'm pretty good at it . I just cant figure this one out . Any Ideas ?

I like the ring and the coins. Great finds to say the least.

Awesome hunt and congrats on the nice finds! HH, Mike

Nice haul for the day. You both did well. Happy trails still looks like it is producing well. Maybe not as good but any site that you can come away with 2-3 silver in a half day hunt is a good site in my book.

Cool Baby ring. ;D

Thanks for your reply Jason, I can't tell you what your doing wrong. Sounds to me like your doing just fine. All your finds are great. As for the silver, I can't tell you what the deal is.

I know for one, I go back to the same sites every year. Some sites I have hunted never produce anything and then BANG, the next year up pops the silver. It happened this year just like that. I hunted one site every year for years, then for some reason this year up pops silver all over the place. Heck I even found a gold ring at this old one room school house site. I guess it is the way the soil is toiled up by the farmer.

Another thing is your from Wood Co., back in the 1860's around the black swamp area, there weren't that many schools or people who lived in that area. Although if you check around Cygnet and Jerry City or around that area, you might find some area's that would produce some finds your looking for. During WW I, Cygnet was on the top ten list by the Germans to be bombed in the U.S., because of the oil that was in the area. It was one of the biggest producers of oil in the U.S. during the first World War. Thousands of people worked in the area! Just a little research on my part.

Another area to look would be the Wood Co. Museum. Speaking of the Wood Co. Museum, my partner and I are going to give a talk there this summer on Metal Detecting and will be displaying some of our finds also.

Hope your silver finds get better, but from what you have found so far, I think you have done very well!

I did forget to tell you, I did find a little more than I have posted on here, I found over 3000 clad coins this year. So you see, I don't always dig good coins. But heck, I got a new coil for my ACE 250 with the clad coins I found and had enough money left over to take my wife out for a real nice dinner!

Thats pretty cool . Do you know what date your going to be at the museum ? I go there alot and will deffinitely go to your seminar . They usually put on some good ones . Always interesting . Let me know . Thanks for the tips .

Congrats on some really great finds!

I think my favorite of your lot is the whistle ;D, the Wheats & the sweet baby ring ;D

Makes you wonder what the story is behind the lost ring? ???

Bogart :D
