Handmade Italian Wine Bottle

Found at an estate sell for $15. The owner said it was in the house he moved into 60 years ago and didn't know anything about it's history. Marking on the bottom says Italy. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like some touristy knickknack or something. The lack of attention to detail, and that it says "made _ Italy" tells me that more of these were made. If it were an individual artist you'd probably have their name on the bottom instead.
