Well l didn't really hammer it l only had about an hour before dark. Thought l'd give the field a chance to produce a few coins. Found $1.32 and Saint Michael (Sterling).

... and l found this.

Hey alright way to go buddy.sweet find for sure.

Wow cool find for a soccer field, never know I guess!

That's a really cool find for a soccer field!

Thanks all of y'all for looking and commenting! The spot where l found the Cut Silver seems to be an old road. It is packed river clay , gravel and shell. I still haven't lD'ed it as such but it appears to be. The area was mostly farms at one time. Yesterday l was able to hunt for about an hour before dark again and pulled out $1.54 in change including a 2000 Silver Dollar. I also found a small Brass Button and a Shield Nickel that l have soaking. I found a small modern ring marked 925. It's been raining a lot and l believe that the field may be leveled for a parking lot soon. So hopefully l can continue to hit it as much as possible for this mix of old and new silver that l'm finding.

Pic of silver dollar? Like a silver eagle/walking liberty on front? Nice lil piece of silver.

Looks to be a early to mid-1700s Spanish cut Qrter, very nice find!

Thanks Crusader! That's what l came up with, " early to mid 1700's". Is there any way to narrow it down to a more definite date?

Those that are familar with these (I've never had one) should be able to narrow it a bit more, I'm guessing to a 10 year window. Try either the 'What Is It' forum or the 'Spanish Cobs':
Spanish Cobs
I know its not a cob but those guys, if you ask nicely are good at these & should be able to help.

I was thinking a couple of days ago that I should put it on the Spanish Cob forum to see what those guys could tell me about it. I'll have to put it there tomorrow or this weekend. Thanks again Crusader!

The spanish dropped their spanish silver on the soccer field!

I wanted to get back to Thank all of y'all who looked at my post and particularly those of you who took time to comment, and Yes It Is A Soccer Field! And soon, I'm told, to be a three level parking garage. Can't have enough of those in the world ya know.

Anyway, in the few intermittent hours ( maybe 4) that I've been able to hunt this field I have found about $7.00 (mostly 1970's) in coins.
I also found 2- rings (1- is .925). A sterling St. Micheal medallion. A Sheild Nickel and a V-Nickel neither of which the date is visible. The 3 Buttons (backs only) I believe are from the War of Northern Aggression time period. Also 3 Buttons (2 flat, 1 domed) that appear to be colonial. The second day that I hunted this field I came up with a nicely worn Large Cent.

Well I got back out there for a short hunt before the snow started and came up with this...
