was having trouble with one of my detectors again, took it out back, i have 1+3/4 acres, mostly wooded, 10 min. before it went haywire again i got a good solid signal. dig about 4" down, out pops a 1909 barber half, full liberty, real nice condition. glad i waved the coil over it before it crapped out. wonder how it came to rest there. area still has barbed wire where cattle were contained. hh all.

Morgan half??

Not again on the detector:dontknow:but glad it found a sweet coin!

sorry fred i did say morgan, i stand corrected, barber, thanks.

wow in your back yard? Your house isn't old enough to have barbers laying around! Have you checked the plats to see if there was an older house there before you? That's really awesome about the half!

i did check the plats jason, no house here until 1977 the year mine was built. 150 yo farms east and west of me on my street. i figure there must of been a water troft for cattle farther back. maybe lost while hunting. i don't think farmers carried much cash with them back then, i've only found old pennies and 1- 2 center.

Congrats Mark, Part of the fun of MDing, wondering how did this get here, and how did I get so lucky to find it.

Now who's that guy that's always trying to find a Barber and will travel the range of N. Illinois looking high and low for one?

I kinda picture someone thinking about Dorothy's famous line, "There's no place like home"

Isn't that your first Barber half? I think you've found just about everything else in your search for one already. Congrats!

yes tim, first barber of any kind. and a lot of molten blobs of aluminum all over the yard from burning leaves over the years with can slaw in the mix.

I saw the barber half in person and it is a beauty!
