Found this 1838 Half Dime here in Mississippi today with an AT Pro. Apologies for picture quality. About the best I can do.

love finding them great job

Wow, 1838-O is one of the "key dates" in the series. Assuming that's just loose dirt that will rinse off with water, that could be worth several hundred dollars- possibly more than $500. Looks like VF+ details under the dirt. Whatever you do, please don't scrub it or clean it by wiping with a cloth. Just a water rinse should do.

As a dedicated half dime collector, I vote "banner"!

That is one beautiful coin MSRelic! :o
Congratulations! :hello2:

Hope you don't mind that I re-sized your pics!
Dave

Very nice find indeed. With an original mintage of only 70,000 it is undervalued in my opinion.

Big congrats!! :headbang: :headbang:

Many thanks guys. Antiquarian, thanks for resizing the photos.

Unfortunately those spotty grey crust accretions you see on the coin wouldn't come off under a water rinse. Also you can see the coin was nicked at about the 3:30 position. Anyway, it will stay with me. I've found only a few "old" coins so its nice to add one to the collection.

Best of luck to you all.

You know what buddy, that's one beautiful coin and I'm sure anyone of us would've been
thrilled to have found it! :notworthy: Here's a pic of my first silver nickel find, no amount
of cleaning would take the black off this baby either! :laughing7:

Happy hunting to you,
Dave
