Not real shure of the 2nd name (? word?) and the date is def 183_ but looks like a 5

Re: GUN PARTS??

They definetly look like gun part's TC....The one look's like a "nose cap" from an old 1850's model....Other look's like part of a butt plate :icon_scratch:

Re: GUN PARTS??

Looks like parts from an early flintlock musket because of the butt plate. Tony

Im pretty amazed that this was etched in by someone over 170 yrs ago.
It sure brightened a hard day today finding the etchings.

Im sure the guy (whoever he was) couldent imagine others looking at this 170 yrs later and wondering about his life, heck he was probaly just trying to maintain ownership of his gun. Now he's being Imortalized.
Crazy world huh?

That's a Way Cool Find! I wonder if it had a sentence on it... The last words could be "his shot." From the photo it looks like "LORRN___" instead of "LORRA___"

Wow. You might be able to take some talc powder and sprinkle it over it and wipe off only the high part to bring out the marks.

Hope you get the barrel too--with that much of the gun there, you may find the rest of it. Has the area been plowed? If so, check the closest edges of the field or any nearby sinkholes where a farmer could've tossed a rusted barrel to get it out of the field.

It's fake Albert, you scratced those initials! Just a joke folks, I am here at his house using his computer. I have seen it in person and it is quite something. Really gets our imagination going. Excellent find. Monty

I like the finds, Those old gun parts are sure interesting.
Maybe some day when I make a trip up to my daughters in Hewitt we could meet up for a chat sometime. I go through Calvert when we head that way. I look to see if I can see you when we come through.
