I found this about 10 ft from a musket barrel yesterday water hunting. It looks like a barrel with front sight and part of rear sight sorry that pics are not the best. But any help would be appreciated..thanks
I've been a gunsmith for 40+ years and I yearly see something I've never seen or heard of before so I wouldn't rule that out as not being some type of single shot rifle. What state did you find it in? What did the other barrel look like? Were there Civil War battles in your area? Were you close to a bridge or river crossing? Let us know. I hope it is some type of firearm but if it is, it's one I am not familiar with at all...d2
Yes a civil war battle took place where it was found. I found a musket barrel about 10 ft from this. I have found 4 musket barrels and this looks and feels just like a barrel. Cleary see the front sight and half or rear sight and barrel has been bent like several of musket barrels i have found
Dfxcobb, I have looked at rifles till I see them when I shut my eyes at night and can't come up with anything that might be. Have you cleaned out the barrel, if so are there any rifling marks left in it. Some kind of falling block something or another, maybe. Maybe there's a bullet lodged in the barrel...d2
