I’ve always been a believer in “waste not, want not”. I repurpose whenever possible.
I experimented with artificial wine corks in my rock tumbler, in lieu of ceramic media.
Ok results, but not great. I’ve been using “widgets” for a few months. These are the small, nitrogen “bombs” that come in the cans of Guinness (shown) to add the creamy head to the beer. Remove the empty can top with a can opener and remove the ball.
These seem to do a great job so far. I have 5 that have tumbled for weeks and show no signs of distress. They essentially keep the rocks from pummeling each other, in the later stages.
