I’ve always been a believer in “waste not, want not”. I repurpose whenever possible.
I experimented with artificial wine corks in my rock tumbler, in lieu of ceramic media.
Ok results, but not great. I’ve been using “widgets” for a few months. These are the small, nitrogen “bombs” that come in the cans of Guinness (shown) to add the creamy head to the beer. Remove the empty can top with a can opener and remove the ball.
These seem to do a great job so far. I have 5 that have tumbled for weeks and show no signs of distress. They essentially keep the rocks from pummeling each other, in the later stages.

It’s not carbonated. When you open the can, it releases the small dose of nitrogen.
