Gucci ?

Your the obvious authority on the subject. Thanks for clearing that up for us.
Don't know what we would have done without you.::)

FWIW- You really shouldn't comment on subjects you obviously know nothing about. This isn't the crh forum. Gucci's reputation for producing high quality goods precedes them, especially handbags. Christ, Jackie Kennedy even carried a Gucci bag. I doubt the presidents wife would have carried anything less than the best. If anything, "some" of their products are made with less quality today versus in the 1970's. Just like everything else.

But evan I remember her purse strap breaking on tv one time getting off Air Force one.And I was a kid.

You all assume these companies made good quality stuff back in the day. They weren't the outrageously expensive things they are today and had different lines of products at different costs. My guess was this was one of their "cheaper" handbags.... Cheap vs the better models they sold. "supple and the stitching flawless" no, not in the 1970s, with years of use. I dont see why ANYONE would counterfeit a model that doesn't even remotely resemble the similar ones. Just because it's Gucci, DOES NOT MEAN it is not subject to flaws, imperfect stitches and the effects of time.

Well for the OP's Sake, I hope it is the real deal... But you say that we all "Assume" these companies made good quality stuff back in the day?...If ANYTHING..it would have been alot higher quality then, comapred to know....and I do know about ladys handbags....dont ask...lol....But yes, there are a few easy giveaways that they are fake...

Now for this purse, its really hard to tell...because it appears to ME, to be a older style purse that has been well used...and for the lady to have mutliples...that makes sense to me...My mom has been collecting purses since the late 80s and has a few of the same purse...for what reason, i have no idea.

The pricing of Gucci and "superior goods" that do not follow status quo economic logic, they tend to have better quality as time progresses. With price increases also, they do not experience a decline in demand that would occur for lower quality goods. What I mean by this is, an increase of the price of Louis Vuitton, or Gucci, will have very little impact on their sales. Compare the prices of Gucci today with even a few years ago and you will see it has risen quite a large amount. Excess price would mean excess profit meaning they would have much more money to devote to flawless stitching than they would have in the past.

Fashion Inflation: Why Are Prices Rising So Fast? - BoF - The Business of Fashion

Think about it, let's say Gucci made a leather handbag in 1975 and sold it for 2500 USD adjusted for inflation. Today many of their handbags cost much more than this. With the extra money they of course devote more of it to superior stitching.

As for the quality, didn't gucci sell several "lines" or "levels" of products at one time? ie, like how Dolce & Gabanna has D&G for their lesser products and has the Dolce and Gabanna brand for their better products. Gucci does not "level" their products now, but in the past I'm almost certain they had a lower quality selection of products vs the good ones. Could anyone confirm this?

There were more than half-dozen well sourced reasons given above as to why this bag is fake. Very specific examples were given and pointed out.

Take a look at a real 50s era bag with real wear and tear. See how everything is perfect? See how the stitching is made in a straight but uneven zig-zag pattern? See how there is no fake piping peeling off all over the place? See how the leather looks soft, like a couch you would want to curl up on?

What I'm saying is NOT nonsense and I don't appreciate it being CALLED nonsense. I've owned several luxury items as these and (unfortunately) some counterfiets; so I think I at least have SOME knowledge on this subject and I don't appreciate you saying I 'have no idea what I'm talking about'. Explain the logic of making a counterfeit of a unpopular model?

Making a subjective assessment as to whether or not an item is "perfect" is even worse, I always used the word "assume" or "probably" meaning I don't know for certain. You are the one making absurd statements with terms like "perfect". Also you pick an example that is extremely well taken care of and hence the price. I could go on eBay and find 10 beat up Gucci handbags for a cheaper price, just because it has a certian brand name does not mean it is immune to the effects of time, sunlight even cigarette smoke. Picking a "perfect" specimen on ebay and making it out as the be all and end all and thus all Gucci products must follow coincidentally or otherwise they are not Gucci's are false is the bad advice, not mine.

I'm on the fence but I'd lean more toward it being real than false at this point since I don't see why on earth anyone would counterfeit such a model. I suggest the OP takes better pictures from all angels inside and out in better lighting and post it on a handbag forum and see what their opinions are OR better yet take it to a Gucci store and see if it can be authenticated.

True, any item from anywhere can have wear and tear but.. Its less likely for a real quality items to fall apart like that. However, people are also pointing out design flaws like un-strait stitching. Also never doubt for a second that something is not worth counterfeiting. Asian countries counterfeit *everything* from Tupperware to $200,000 watches. They literally copy EVERYTHING..... Lots of things make this purse a fake, and lots of people agree on it...

Keep @ it and HH !!

Well Bill, i've already told you how to find out if it is indeed real. List it on Ebay, you'll find out. One strike won't hurt and it goes away after 90 days. For your sake I hope I am wrong, me and everyone one else.

Where is the little emoticon that's eating popcorn like most other forums have?...lol.

You mean this one? :happy1::happy1::happy1:
I prefer the one I saved myself- food105.gif or this one- popcorn.gif lol. Yeah, it's getting deep.

This may be more appropriate- icon_couch.gif

Love the popcorn eating icons! Is the a Gucci store nearby? Ask them and, if they say yea or nay, ask them to explain why. Education is a wonderful thing. It has been a while and I don't remember if Gucci or older Guccis have serial numbers. Look it up. I did that for a handbag I think with Prada. Valid number but wrong model for the one I had sitting in front of me. Then I goggled the number and came up as common for counterfeiters. I think my wife still has an older Gucci like that style - eBay yanked it as counterfeit. It was one of the better knock offs I guess. And each line has different levels - a lot are made in Thailand, Vietnam, and China. Wall Street Journal had a piece a couple years ago about how around 30% of Prada, Gucci, and others were made in these countries. Sometimes they are fully made in these countries and get a made in china designation. The upper ends tend to have it all done but a little bit. These are shipped back to Italy so and finished up do they can have a made in Italy label!

I sent pictures and questions to the gucci site on the internet hopefully they will answer back.I have found out not all of them have serial numbers and a lot of them do not have gucci all over them, some of them do not have there mark or name on the zipper pull. The lining does look like some of there older ones.So I am still up in the air over it BUT leaning toward real.
