GTA 350 problem????

Greetings fellow detectorists. I just received a used gta 350 from my wife for Christmas. I live in central Iowa and couldnt wait to use it so I put on my headlamp (at night) and hit the local sand volley ball court. FOund lots of pennies and two matchbox cars.
My question is this: When I wiggle the cord where it enters the search coil, my detector beeps (when holding the search coil up in the air) Is this normal or is there a short or break in the wire?? DOes anyone know if this model tells the depth of target?
