Man those are some great negatives.. great find. Although convenience stores sure have changed.

The store front pic is cool, especially the dwarf, looks like "Happy"!
(Hard to tell who the other is)

Great pics, thanks for sharing! :icon_thumright:

(Welcome to TNET!)

To answer your question about the trains, yes they are of that era. I would love to have been around back then to see them working and running on the tracks.

Look in the drugstore window photo far right you will see two items that are the same. They look like spiral notebooks. Do you recgonise the two on the front?
CHARLIE1.jpg
Could it be this photo on the front?
Good old Charlie and Edgar. If the storefront was taken in 1938 that means Charlie and Edgar had only been famous for about two years.

the other Movie Below it with Gabby Hayes

As you can see in the window the movie theatre is in Rupert WV. So this could be Rupert or a close by town that does not have a theatre
A little google told me:

Rupert is a town in Greenbrier County.
The community was named for Dr. Cyrus A Rupert, founder
The latitude of Rupert is 37.963N. The longitude is -80.689W.
It is in the Eastern Standard time zone. Elevation is 2,441 feet.
The estimated population, in 2003, was 948

If you are close by I am sure an old timer might recognise something.

I,ve been a Cyberdan Fan since finding this site. ASK! ASK! ASK! Great advise that has paid off. But noticing the picture you post, I can't resist posting this negative from the group I found. This is a negative as the positive is not near as charming. Sorry and Thanks, Dan I always enjoy your posts.

Thanks for the complement. I have been trained to look at the little details. Besides that I have a sick/warped sense of humor. :tongue3:

When I first saw that neg I thought it was Elton John's grandfather.

Welcome to T-Net and you got some wonderful :headbang: negatives that hold an important part of our history.

I know this is an old post, but I want to add this:
In the Rupert W. VA storefront photo is the Trade Winds sign as was mentioned. It also mentions the dates . . . Wednesday & Thursday, September 13 and 14.

In 1938, Sept 13 was a Tuesday. In '39 it was a Wednesday. The storefront photo was 1939.

In the first photo notice that the gas station also says lubritorium, I've never heard that word before, Too cool. You defineatly scored..............Scott

Figuring that out is impressive. How on earth did you figure this out?

Thank you! I'm not precisely sure what I Googled the first time, but if you Google "Wednesday September 13" without the quotes you'll get a WWII journal as the 2nd hit. Or you can google "Calendar 1938" and you'll get an easy to maneuver calendar as the first hit.
