Shaun7, Hammered & I joined up to search some new land that Shaun7 had only done a short hunt on. It looked very inviting with a large part of it being on a steep hill, we got out the car thinking Iron Age or Roman would be possibilities on such a great looking piece of landscape. We soon found out it was going to be a struggle of a day & we fanned out in a desperate attempt to find any good early signs. None of us got a sniff of even Medieval & I knew it was a tough day when I took a Musket Ball as a good sign, plus a few tombacs :P

I was somewhat pleased to dig a complete crotal bell (still rings) & happier to see a deep silver pop up.

When I got home & I checked to see if the 1838 Shilling was better than the one in my collection (I buy as well as find). I was surprised to find I had not left a space for a 1838 (schoolboy error, as it was a first issue & on another page of the book, therefore it never went on my list to buy) :laughing7: So I've made space for my latest addition ;D Which brightens a somewhat hard days hunt.

Nice shilling :icon_thumleft:

Sounds like a lot of hunts we've had this Fall, but at least you came out with something.

You forgot to mention it was slippery and cold too :laughing7:. I think you won the day with that shilling :icon_thumleft: and the crotal bell was nice too. My sixpence is so worn you can't see the date any more but the two large coppers are promising. One is an 1806 George 3rd halfpenny and the big one is an 1838-60 young head penny, everything is in soak now. It was fun to watch you two detect with hangovers though :laughing9:. All in all it was a fun day and good to be out with you guys, thanks.

Hopefully our next hunt together will be more fruitful :-\ As long as Shaun7 doesn't stitch us up again :laughing7:

I forgot to add this earlier, this pic was taken with my cell phone from the top of the hill we started on.

Thanks, good photo, it seemed so promising :laughing9:

It was all the broken roof tiles and worked flint that did it, but I still think it's worth another go when it's ploughed ;D.
