Hi T Net, Ground Hog Day 2011 Wed. was the meltdown here in Jersey , just enough to get rid of the remaining white stuff . Temps were up in the high 50's and the pesky groundhog varmit did his thing . A short hunt was the best medicine for cabin fever . Started out at a nearby old reliable corn field area and found some nice iron relics , horse shoes , and two more ax heads . Then after nothing but shell tops for an hour I dug some ammo for small caliber gun. I was ready to call it when I dug this pistol at about six inches near the brass and lead . I was sure it wasn't a toy and cleaned it up back at the house . Turns out to be a Ivers Johnson , 1889 Defender pocket pistol, 22 cal. five shot revolver . :headbang: Pictures are what it used to look like when first made 1889 -1895. I have been finding some gun parts lately but this is the first complete one in years. 8) Not a large cal. bad boy but still in fair shape . Last picture is the ground hog . Lil varmits packin' heat :o :laughing7: Thanks for taking a look , CMDdawg

All I ever find are pieces. That gun is in great shape. You found a nice one to display.
Congratulations. Great find.

That pistol is one NEAT find!! And for those elsewhere in NJ the snow level was lower in southern southern part of the state and that high temperature yesterday melted all my snow here in Mays Landing except for some frozen shady areas and of course plowed or snow blowed piles. However, woods hunting would be about it, my lawn was a squish squish yesterday for the top inch and frozen solid underneath.

Cool gun find Dawg ! I have yet to get my coil over a whole real firearm. You can never tell what will turn up next . MaineRedlic

Awesome find! Did you make sure it was unloaded? ;D

WOW, very nice find.

Nice find D Dawg. You found a little heat in NJ, congrats... no wonder the ground was thawed... Arty

Great find.... Wonder what story lies behind it.

Yeah, Jimmy Hoffa is probably pretty close. Now, that would be a find!!!!

Did someone lose it :dontknow: or try to hide it :icon_scratch:
Great find. dawg .

sweet relic!!! MR TUFF

Nice find. You can clean that up by soaking it in vinegar. I've found vinegar works as well or better than other rust removers that sell for ten times the price. You might get the parts moving again. :icon_thumleft:

missed this,,,

thats a nice looking complete example, seems like it would clean up some, if so post again...

Congratulation!
