I would get in the habit of manually ground balancing after turning on the machine. I for some reason just never completely trusted ground tracking. And if my hunting terrain changes during a hunt. It's always a good idea to GB.

You have a deus so all those places you hunted before with the deus should let you know what your soil conditions are . I noise cancel and GB every time I turn it on .I was using tracking and not GB at all . I turned off tracking and I GB and signals seemed more crisp and clear .

I understand that ground balancing the NOX is not important for mild soil or soil/ground not heavily mineralized.

However, how can you tell if the ground is heavily mineralized with the NOX?

Yeah, that will work for the sites that have experience with, but what about new sites. I’m in southern KY right now and the soil is mineralized with iron. I’m trying to figure out if in need to ground balance or leave it at default zero. When I auto ground balance the ground number jumps to 60. I’m not sure if this means that I don’t need to ground balance or if I need to?

ALWAYS ground balance, no matter what type of soil. Help your machine help you. :occasion14:

I would definitely try manually doing it and see what number that gets you compared to the auto mode. Peace of mind. Also, see if the side-to-side method ML mentions in the manual gives you better results in auto mode, vs pumping.

Yes, always balance. It takes 15 seconds. 15 seconds to improve hours of hunting.

What I mean by auto ground balance is once in the ground balance setting you press the accept/reject button at the same time as pumping the coil. I don’t use tracking. I find it reduces performance.

In the Bowling Green, KY red clay today the auto ground balance would start at 0 and go to around 50. It seams a little high for a ground balance number? Does anyone else get a ground balance numbers in the 50s or higher?

Does lowering the auto adjusted ground balance number by 2 or 3 help get a little extra depth like other detectors like the do Deus?

According to a Minelab tester the ground balance needs no adjusting unless in mineralized soil.

Have you tried going into Beach 2 ? :skullflag:

I live about 70 miles south of you.
I get GB numbers using park 2 and field 2 in the 50s lots of times.
Equinox has no way to judge soil mineralization levels. Like F75, Deus does.
Just do auto GB ,and use tracking or not, your decision.
You will know when detecfor gets out of balance. You'll hear little whispers (flirt sounding) start creeping in when sweeping coil.

Thanks TN. Makes sense. I’m only visiting family in Bowling Green. I live in Savannah, GA where we don’t worry about ground balance.

Hi Terry, yes I have used Beach 2 when I was at the beach a few weeks ago. I didn’t even adjust the ground balance and seemed to work well.

What you'll find in that area.
On top of ridge lines in fields, soil higher mineralized.
River level to slightly above medium mineralized.
In the woods, nothing higher than medium mineralized.
Go to eastern part of state in coal country, much worse.

On one site today just putting my pin pointer about 2” above the ground set it off.

Very difficult to find the target.

Thanks again!

Good clear video 42Merc, to ground balance or not? If a machine has it, use it. Only takes seconds. As Terry said, "Help your machine help you".

Not my video . I guess I should have posted that . I thought it had good info for this thread .

OK then, how about "Good clear posting of good infro." Either way.

the ground will glow at night....:laughing7:
