Hello, just got back from the beach at hilton head. I was with my girlfriend and saw a guy using a metal detector with his son in a bsa uniform. I'm 37 been in scouting for 31 years so I started talking to him and told him I always wanted to get into it. Well we ended up talking for over 2 hours and he let me use his machine. It was a very high dollar minelab or something like that. I told him I was from Chattanooga and lived very close to the battlefield and would love to go on some non park land and look for some things.

So now I'm here. I go to the beach a lot and live in the mountains around chattanooga tn and I don't have a metal detector, nor a group of people to go hiking and hunting with. So first I need to get a detector, I'd like to stay around the 300-500 dollar range right now. So what machine should I be researching?

Also where might I find a metal detector group in my area?

Thanks for having this amazing site, look forward to reading lots of posts!

thank you everyone for the welcomes and all, but if you have advice on what machine to get in the 300-500 range that would really help me :)

Welcome aboard from Northern Virginia :skullflag: I like the AT Pro but it does not like being in the salt water and it takes some usage to understand what it is telling you in the wet sand. Works great in fresh water. Lots of members tout the Equinox 600/800 but I have never used one so I couldn't tell you.

I would highly recommend the Nokta Simplex. Just got mine a few weeks ago and love it! It's also in your budget
